Art Lab Kottivakkam

Art Lab Kottivakkam is located at No 3/363, right opposite New Beach Road. It’s a nice spot here in Thiruvanmiyur, especially with the breeze coming off the water, though the salt air does make things rust a bit faster. Our space is pretty simple. We have tables set up for different projects and shelves full of jars, brushes, and random materials we’ve collected. It’s not a tidy place by any means; there’s usually a bit of mess on the floor from whatever someone was working on earlier. We’ve been here for a while and the locals know where to find us. It’s a bit of a walk from the main bus stop, but being near the beach road makes it worth it. Sometimes we just leave the door open to let the air in, even if it brings a bit of dust. The lighting in the back room isn’t great, so we mostly work in the front part of the lab. We don't follow a strict corporate schedule or anything. People come in, they work on their art, and we help out where we can. It’s just a regular workshop where things are constantly being made and moved around. The walls are covered in bits of paper and old sketches that nobody ever took down. It feels lived in, which is how we like it. We spend our days just making things.
