This branch of Arkay Leathers Pvt. Ltd. is over at No. 91/4 Anna Salai in the Nagelkeni area of Chrompet. Nagelkeni is well known for leather, so you can smell the tanneries in the air most days. It’s a different vibe here than at our other spots. This place is more about the raw materials and getting things moved around. We are right on Anna Salai, so the traffic is constant and it can get quite loud with the buses honking. The building is a simple one, mostly used for storage and a bit of administrative work. We spend a lot of time in the warehouse area checking the hides. Some of them are heavy and it takes a couple of us to move them. It’s a dusty job and your hands get dirty pretty quickly. We have a small desk near the front door where we keep the logbooks and sign off on deliveries. People come in and out all day, mostly delivery drivers and local workers. We don't have any air conditioning in the back, just some big industrial fans that move the air around. It’s hot work, especially in the summer months. We just get through the day, one pile of leather at a time. It’s a local business and we know most of the people on this stretch of the road.
