If you come down to 54 Maddox Street in Choolai, you’ll find us working away at Amjad Finished Leather Company. The smell of leather is pretty much everywhere here, and we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We spend our time sorting through hides and making sure the finishing is done right. It’s a messy job sometimes, with all the dyes and tools laying around, but it is honest work. Choolai has always been a hub for this kind of thing, so we feel right at home on this street. Our building isn't anything special, just an old place that has seen a lot of leather pass through its doors. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there, just trying to provide what our customers ask for without making a big fuss about it. The machines can be noisy and the floors usually have scraps of leather scattered about. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything like that. People who know us just come straight to the workshop. It’s a small team here, mostly guys who have been doing this for a long time. We know how to tell a good piece of leather from a bad one just by the feel of it. It’s what we do day in and day out. Sometimes the heat in the workshop gets a bit much, but we just keep going. We like the work we do. It keeps us busy and we know the trade well.
