Our workshop is at 107/55 Walaja Road. It’s a busy part of town and there’s always something happening outside our door. Inside, it’s mostly the sound of sewing machines and the snip of scissors. We have rows of tables where the fabric gets laid out and cut. It’s a lot of repetitive movement, day in and day out. We aren't making high-end stuff for runways; we’re just making clothes that people can actually wear. The floor is usually covered in thread and scraps of cloth by noon. We try to sweep up, but it just piles up again. We have a few big fans that don't really do much against the heat, but they keep the air moving a little. Most of the staff have been here for years, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot. Walaja Road has its own energy, and we’re just a small part of it. We don't have a fancy showroom. If you want to see what we're making, you just have to walk past the machines and look at the racks in the back. It’s a bit messy and loud, but that’s how a real fashion unit operates. We just focus on getting the pieces stitched right and packed into the boxes for the morning pickup. There’s always another pile of fabric waiting, so we don't spend much time sitting around talking.
