Down here in the New Cloth Market at D-215, things are always a bit chaotic. Being near the Chandigarh G.P.O means there are always people rushing around with packages or looking for specific fabric shops. We are tucked away among all the cloth dealers and wholesalers. You can hear the sound of the market bikes and the carts rattling on the pavement all day long. Inside our spot, we try to keep things as tidy as possible, but in a market like this, the dust from all the textiles tends to find its way everywhere. We mostly focus on getting the food prep done early before the lunchtime rush starts when the shop workers come out. It is a small space so we have to be careful not to trip over each other when the pots are hot. The walls are painted a plain color and we have a few fans going to keep the air moving since it gets stuffy. It is not the kind of place you come to for a fancy sit-down meal, just a practical spot in the middle of the trade hub. We have been in this unit for a while and have seen many shops around us change hands, but we just keep doing our thing. The overhead lights flicker sometimes but we just ignore it and get back to work. There is always a lot of chatter from the neighbors and we just fit right into the daily rhythm.
