The Kutch Handicrafts

The Kutch Handicrafts is located on the 3rd floor of a building in Old Rajendra Nagar. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, but we’ve been here for quite some time now. This area is mostly residential and students, so it’s a different vibe than a market. We have a workshop where we keep all the textiles and handmade items from back home. It’s full of colors and different fabrics, and it smells a bit like old thread and dye. We don’t have a big storefront on the street. Instead, we work from this upper floor and send things out from here. It’s mostly just a few of us who grew up around these crafts. We aren't trying to be a big global brand or anything. We just like the things we make and want to share them with people who appreciate the handiwork. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait a bit, but that’s just part of being in this neighborhood. We don’t use fancy marketing. People usually find us because they’re looking for something specific that isn't made by a machine. We spend our days sorting through inventory and making sure everything is packed carefully. It’s a quiet life, mostly, just focusing on the textures and patterns that have been in our families for generations. It’s real work done by real people.
