Ram Parshad Ram Chand

Ram Parshad Ram Chand is an old name in Pahar Ganj. You can find us at 4470, Main Bazar. If you know the area, you know how tight the streets are and how many people are walking around at any given time. Our shop has been around for generations, and not much has changed in terms of how we do things. We sell a variety of general goods, mostly things that local residents and travelers need. The shop is narrow and deep, filled with shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. We use a long wooden ladder to reach the stuff at the top. It’s dusty and the lighting isn't the best, but we know where everything is kept. My father sits at the front, and I help out with the customers and the suppliers. We don't have a website or a fancy catalog. If you want something, you come in and ask. We talk to our customers about their families and the news while we wrap up their purchases in brown paper. Pahar Ganj is a loud, chaotic place, but our shop feels like a little piece of history. We don't use computers much, preferring to write everything down in our thick account books. It’s a slow way of working, but it’s the way we’ve always done it. We are just a part of the daily life here.
