Kamalja Agro Producer Company Limited is located over in Sultanpur, in the Lonar area of Buldhana district. We run things from Rameshwar Balmukund Mantri’s place. Lonar is a unique place, but farming here has the same old problems you find anywhere else. We’ve got a lot of history in this soil, and most of us grew up watching our fathers and grandfathers work these same plots. We put this producer company together because we wanted to have more control over our own lives. When you're just one person, nobody listens, but as a group, people pay a bit more attention. Rameshwar keeps the books, and we all pitch in with the physical work. We aren't trying to change the world; we just want to make sure our families are fed and our farms stay viable. It’s a lot of sitting around on porches discussing the price of cotton or whatever else we’re growing that year. We don't have fancy goals written on the wall. We just want to get through the year without losing too much and maybe even make a small profit. There’s a lot of talk about modern farming, but out here, it’s still about how much sweat you’re willing to put in. We take it as it comes and try to help each other when things get tough.
