Birbhum Kishan Vikash Farmer Producer Company Limited is based in a small village called Chatina. We use Abdul Akher’s place as our main point of contact. Life here in Birbhum is very tied to the land and the seasons. We are just a group of local farmers who grew tired of struggling on our own. Most of us have small plots of land where we grow rice, mustard, or vegetables. We don't have any big machinery or high-tech systems. It is mostly just hard manual labor and a lot of sweat. We decided to form this company so we could have a bit more say in how our produce is handled. It’s been a learning process for all of us. None of us are businessmen; we are just people who know how to grow things. There are days when everything goes wrong, like a pump breaking or the pests attacking the crops. But we just deal with it one day at a time. Our village of Chatina is where our roots are. We meet up to discuss things like seed quality or which market to go to. It’s very informal. You’ll see us in our everyday clothes, probably covered in some mud from the fields. We don't try to impress anyone. We just want to do our work, support our families, and keep our village moving forward through the tough times and the good times. It is a simple goal but it takes everything we have.
