Mangal Bharti Lok Shala

Mangal Bharti Lok Shala is over in Bhavnagar. It is one of those places that has been around for a while and just feels like part of the furniture of the town. The school is situated in a way that many kids from the surrounding neighborhoods can just walk in. The building itself is quite old and has that specific smell of old paper and chalk dust that you find in schools. We have rooms that are filled with benches that have been scratched by generations of students. There isn't any air conditioning, so we rely on the ceiling fans and the sea breeze when it actually manages to reach us. The staff room is usually a mess of registers and half-corrected notebooks. We spend a lot of time talking to parents who stop by after work to check on how their kids are doing. It is not a place for flashy events or big advertisements. We just focus on the daily lessons. During the break, the courtyard gets very loud with everyone playing and eating. The water cooler is usually the most popular spot in the building. We have some trees in the corner that provide a bit of shade. It is a basic setup, really. We just show up, do the work, and hope the kids get what they need. Life here is simple and follows the same rhythm every year.
