Unplugged is located on the first floor of building number 32 in Kumara Park East. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, but once you’re here, it’s a pretty relaxed space. We started this place because we wanted somewhere to just hang out and maybe listen to some music or work on projects without someone hovering over us. The walls have some old posters and the furniture is a bit of a mix-and-match situation we picked up over the years. We have some basic snacks and drinks, nothing too elaborate or expensive. The light comes in really well through the windows in the afternoon, making it a good spot to sit for a while. Kumara Park East is a nice, leafy part of town, so it’s quieter than the main roads. We don’t have a big sign outside, just a small one near the bell. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when friends of friends show up, but usually, it’s just a handful of people doing their own thing. The floorboards creak a little and the fan makes a clicking sound on high speed, but we’ve gotten used to it. It’s not a corporate office or a high-end lounge, just a simple room where people can unplug for a bit. We spend a lot of time just chatting or fixing things that break. It’s a small, independent venture and we really like it that way.
