Taxi On Call

The office for Taxi On Call is located at 36/1 Banneraghatta Road, which is one of the busiest stretches you can find in this city. It is always loud outside with the traffic, but inside we just focus on the phones. There are always people needing a ride somewhere, whether it is the airport or just across town. We have a few desks and a lot of chargers for our mobile phones because they never stop ringing. Managing a fleet of taxis involves a lot of waiting and a lot of quick thinking when someone cancels at the last minute. Our space is not very big, just enough for us to sit and keep track of the drivers. We have been in this spot for a while and the locals know where to find us. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to scramble to keep the dispatch running on battery. It is not a glamorous job, but it is what we do. We spend most of the day talking to drivers over the radio or phone, trying to navigate them through the Bangalore traffic jams that never seem to end. You might see us standing out front sometimes just taking a breath of air. We keep things pretty casual here. There is always a pot of coffee or tea somewhere. We just handle the rides one by one and try to keep the wheels turning day and night. We are here most hours because the city never really stops moving, so someone always has to be by the phone.
