Syed Collection

Our place is over at 96 Singapore Plaza, which is right by the Bangalore GPO. It is a handy spot because so many people pass by to go to the post office or the other offices around here. The plaza itself has been there for a long time and has that old building smell, a mix of concrete and floor cleaner. We mostly deal with clothes and daily wear items. The shop is small, so we have to use every inch of the walls to hang things up. It gets a bit hot in the summer since the ventilation isn't great, but we keep a small table fan behind the counter. My nephew helps out on the busy days when the office crowd comes in during their lunch break. We don't do much in the way of talking ourselves up. People just walk in, look at the fabric, and ask for the price. We keep a ledger for everything, even though everything is digital these days. It just feels better to write it down. The floor tiles are a bit worn out from all the walking, but that shows how many people have come through over the years. We spend the mornings unpacking boxes that come in from the suppliers and checking for any defects. It is a plain shop with a lot of stuff to look at. We stay open until the plaza closes up at night, which can be quite late sometimes.
