Sukhjeevan Engineering Works

Sukhjeevan Engineering Works is located at C-99 in the Mahadevapura Dyrasandra Industrial Estate. Being in an industrial estate means it is never quiet. There’s always a machine humming or a hammer hitting something somewhere nearby. Our shop is just a big open space with a concrete floor. I spend my days over the lathe or checking the measurements on a piece of work. It’s not the cleanest environment, but it is functional. There is grease on almost every surface and the smell of cutting fluid is always in the air. We’ve been at this post for quite a while now. The mail comes to the estate office and someone usually drops it off in the afternoon. I have a small stool where I sit when I need a break. The light comes in through the high windows, but it gets pretty dark in the corners even during the day. We have a few old calendars on the wall and a clock that’s five minutes fast. I never bothered to fix it. People around the estate know us by name. It is mostly just hard work and making sure the machines are oiled properly. We don’t do any advertising. The work just comes in because we have been here at C-99 for so long. It’s a simple life of making things and fixing what’s broken. We just keep our heads down and finish the projects as they arrive.
