Sri Meenakshi Silk

If you come to the Ranganatha Market, you have to head up to the second floor to find us at Sri Meenakshi Silk. Our shop is at number 7, right there on Jumma Masjid Road. It’s one of those parts of town where it’s always loud and the air smells like the street food downstairs. The stairs up to the second floor are a bit narrow, so we always tell people to watch their step. Inside, it’s mostly just shelves and stacks of fabric everywhere you look. We spend a lot of time unfolding things and then trying to fold them back up neatly, though it never stays that way for long. The market has its own rhythm and we’ve been part of it for a while now. There isn't much space to move around when we have a lot of stock coming in, so we just pile things up wherever they fit. The windows look out over the road and you can see all the people down below pushing carts and weaving through the traffic. It gets pretty warm in the afternoons, especially when the sun hits the front of the building. We just keep the small fans going and try to stay busy. It’s a simple way to spend the day, surrounded by the colors of the silk and the noise of the market outside our door.
