Sri Krupa Silks

We’ve been running Sri Krupa Silks here on the first floor at 540/541 Avenue Road for a good while now. It gets really busy on this street, especially in the mornings, so you actually have to look up to find our sign among all the others. Usually, it’s just us surrounded by tall stacks of silk and different materials that need sorting every single day. People come in looking for specific colors or they just want to see what’s new on the wooden shelves we put up years ago. It isn't a fancy showroom with big lights or glass displays everywhere. We just keep things organized the best we can so when someone asks for a certain weave, we know exactly which pile it’s in. Some days the stairs feel a bit steep when we’re carrying heavy bundles up from the ground floor, but that’s just part of being in this specific building. The ceiling fans are always humming because it gets quite warm with all the fabric around taking up the air. We spend a lot of time just checking the edges of the cloth and making sure everything is folded right before it goes back into its spot. It is a lot of manual work, honestly. There isn't much to say other than we’re here most days of the week doing the same thing. People know where to find us if they’ve been to Avenue Road before. It’s a crowded area, but we like the energy. Sometimes the new stock takes up more space than we actually have.
