If you go to 40-6 Avenue Road and look for Shankar Mansion, you will find us located right behind the Canara Bank. This part of the city is always incredibly crowded and the noise from the market is constant. We deal in silk and our shop is usually filled with different colors and types of fabric stacked up on the shelves. It is a traditional kind of business and we don't have a big glass front or air conditioning. We just have a lot of silk and we know our business well. My family has been in this trade for a long time and we know the Avenue Road area very well. During the festive seasons, the shop gets so full of people that it is hard to move around, but we just keep showing the fabrics and helping everyone out. We spend a lot of time folding and unfolding the silk to show the patterns to customers. It is a bit tiring to be on our feet all day in such a busy environment, but we are used to the pace. We don't bother with fancy advertising because people know they can find us behind the bank in Shankar Mansion. It is a simple, hardworking life in one of the busiest parts of town, and we just keep going day after day.
