Soul Deli Cafe

We’re situated at number 65 on MG Road. It’s an old building, so the walls are thick and the electrical wiring is a bit messy in the back office. The front area where people sit is actually quite small, with just a few round tables squeezed in. We spend a lot of time cleaning the coffee machine because it gets used so much throughout the day. The street outside is always full of people rushing to the metro or their offices. We have a small chalk board where we write stuff down, but my handwriting isn't very good at all. The floor is made of old tiles that have faded over time. We have a fridge that makes a weird rattling noise every twenty minutes, but it keeps things cold enough for us. Usually, it's just two of us behind the counter. We get to know the regulars by their usual orders since they stop in every morning. By the time three o'clock hits, we’re usually leaning against the counter waiting for the evening rush to start. The trash cans fill up fast, so someone is always taking bags out to the alley. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s steady work. We keep the lights dim because it feels more relaxed that way. It’s just a simple cafe in a very busy part of the city. We shut the lights off late and go home.
