Being over here in Koramangala at Building No-448, Sripuram, it’s a bit different from the busier industrial parts of town. We are right on 6th Avenue in Teachers Colony. It’s a bit quieter, which is nice when we are trying to focus on new designs or checking the quality of the clothes coming in. The building itself is nothing special, just a regular space where we have our sewing machines and cutting tables set up. We spend a lot of time looking at different fabrics and trying to get the stitching just right. Sometimes we stay late when a big order is due, and the whole place is lit up while the rest of the street is dark. We have a small kettle in the corner for making coffee because we go through a lot of it during the day. The walls are mostly bare, except for some sketches pinned up here and there. It’s not like those fancy offices you see in magazines. We have piles of thread and fabric scraps everywhere on the floor. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time finding the turn-off, so we have to go out and wave them down in the street. It’s a lot of practical, everyday work. We just show up, do the job, and try to make things that people will actually want to wear. It’s a good group of people working here, and we mostly just get along and work hard.
