Shrew Coffee House

Shrew Coffee House is tucked away in the basement floor of Devatha Plaza on Residency Road. It’s right across from Bishop Cotton Boys School, so we get a lot of noise and energy when the boys come out for the day. The location is a bit funny, being in the basement of Goplani Market near Naroda Road Patia, but once you find the stairs and head down, it’s a nice little escape. I’ve been making coffee here for a good while now. It’s not one of those huge chains with matching uniforms and fake smiles. We just wear what we have and get the beans ready every morning. The smell of the roasts usually fills up the hallway outside long before we open. We have some old tables and chairs that have seen better days, but they’re comfortable enough for a quick break. Most of our customers are either people working in the nearby offices or parents waiting for their kids after school. We spend a lot of time cleaning the machines and making sure the milk is cold. It gets pretty crowded during the lunch hour, and sometimes the orders get backed up, but we just keep going. We don’t have a fancy menu with names you can't pronounce. It’s just coffee and some snacks we like. The lighting in the basement isn't the best, but it makes the place feel quiet compared to the street above. We are just a small spot.
