You have to go up to the second floor of the Egmore Benefit Society Building on Flowers Road to find us. Santosh Engineering Co. has been in this old building for a while now. The elevator is a bit slow and noisy, so most of us just take the stairs if we aren't carrying anything heavy. It’s a classic Egmore setting, with the old architecture and the busy street life right outside the windows. The office feels lived-in, with wooden desks that have seen plenty of use and shelves packed with old engineering manuals. We don't have any of those modern open-plan setups. It’s just rooms and hallways filled with people working on their designs. Flowers Road is always bustling, and you can hear the horns and the people from the shops below all through the day. Sometimes we have our lunch on the balcony just to get some air. The building has a certain smell, like old paper and stone, which feels familiar. We don't spend money on fancy decorations or branding. Our focus is just on the drawings and the technical stuff we have in front of us. It’s a quiet kind of busy. Clients come in, sit in the old chairs, and we talk through the projects. It’s a steady way of doing things in a part of the city that hasn't changed much over the years.
