Chickpet is a crazy place to work, but we’ve been here at D S Lane for a long time now. Sagarmal Champalal & Co is right in the middle of all that noise and movement. If you’ve ever been to number 109/3, you know how busy it gets with people carrying bundles and carts moving through the narrow lanes. Our shop is old-fashioned. We don't have fancy lights or a reception desk. It’s mostly just piles of stock and us sitting there talking to customers and suppliers. We’ve been doing this for years, and we know most of the other shop owners on the street. It’s a community of traders. We deal with a lot of paperwork and manual counting. It’s physical work, moving boxes around and making sure everything is where it should be. We don't use a lot of fancy technology to run the place. A lot of it is still done the old way, with ledgers and personal handshakes. People come to Chickpet because they know they can find what they need, and we try to be part of that. We aren't interested in being a corporate giant. We just like the daily rhythm of the lane. Some days it’s so crowded you can barely move, but that’s just life in this part of Bangalore. We open the doors early and stay until the work is done. It is just how we do business and how we live our lives.
