Roja Silks is located at 51 Avenue Road, but the entrance most people use is at 14 Murzban Road. We are surrounded by other shops and it’s a very old-school way of doing business. Inside, the shelves are piled high with silk and different fabrics. It’s not like a modern mall where everything is behind glass. Here, you can touch the cloth and see the weave up close. We spend a lot of our time pulling down heavy rolls of fabric and spreading them out on the counter. It’s a lot of lifting and folding. The shop has a specific smell of textiles and maybe a bit of dust. We don't have a team of people in suits. It’s just us, and we’ve been doing this for a long time. People come to us when they need something specific for a dress or a sari. We don't use any fancy lighting to make things look better than they are; we just use the regular bulbs and sometimes the light from the door. It’s a straightforward business. We buy the silk, we show it to you, and we cut what you need. Avenue Road and Murzban Road are always bustling, and we’ve become a part of that daily noise. We aren't interested in being a big chain store. We just like our shop and the fabrics we sell. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day.
