Prem Silks

Prem Silks is located in the middle of the old market area, specifically at number 9 on Venkatrayyapa Lane. If you know the C.T. Street Cross, we are right there, just opposite Rajaram Silk House. This part of Bangalore is always crowded and loud, but that is the way it has always been. Our shop is small and filled with rolls of fabric and silk. It’s the kind of place where you have to watch your step because there are often bundles of cloth on the floor. We have been here for years, dealing with customers who come looking for specific patterns or colors. It’s a bit of a maze to get here, especially with the narrow lanes and the scooters buzzing by. We don’t have air conditioning or fancy lights; we just have the lights we need to show the colors of the silk. Sometimes it gets quite hot in the afternoons. We know our neighbors well, and there’s always someone stopping by for a chat or a quick cup of tea from the vendor around the corner. We don’t do any big advertising. People find us because they’ve been coming here for a long time or someone told them about us. It’s a traditional way of doing things. We just focus on the quality of the fabric and making sure the stock is ready for whoever walks through the door. It is a bit messy but we know where everything is.
