Prem Provisions

Down on Ebrahim Sahib Street in Shivaji Nagar, you will find Prem Provisions at number 6. It is one of those narrow streets that is always packed with people and carts, so getting things delivered can be a real struggle sometimes. Our shop is filled from floor to ceiling with all the usual groceries. We have big sacks of rice and lentils sitting on the floor and shelves packed with spices, oils, and soaps. It’s a bit cramped inside, especially when we have more than a couple of customers. We have a wooden counter that has been there since we started, and it’s seen a lot of use. People from the neighborhood come by for their daily needs, and we know most of them by name. There is always a lot of chatter going on while we weigh out the goods. The street outside is loud and there is always some kind of commotion, but that’s just the way Shivaji Nagar is. We don't have any computers or fancy systems; we just write things down in a ledger and use an old weighing scale. It’s a simple way of doing things, but it works for us. We stay open late most nights because that’s when people are coming home from work and realize they forgot to buy something for dinner. It’s a busy life but we are very used to it.
