Our little cafe is sitting at number 9 on Elphinstone Road in the Ulsoor area. It’s not a very big place, just a few tables and chairs we’ve picked up over the years. The street outside is always busy with cars and bikes honking, but inside it stays relatively calm. We spend our mornings grinding the beans and making sure the milk is fresh. The smell of coffee usually fills the room by eight. We have some old posters on the walls that have started to fade a bit at the edges. The ceiling fan wobbles a little when it's on high speed, but it keeps the air moving. We don't have any corporate training or uniforms. We just wear what we have and try to be helpful to whoever walks in. Sometimes the internet goes slow and people have to wait to pay, but nobody seems to mind too much. We get a lot of regulars who work in the offices nearby. They usually sit in the same spots every day. We know who likes a lot of sugar and who wants none. It’s a lot of work keeping the place clean, especially the glass windows facing the road. We use old rags and a bucket of soapy water. It’s not a fancy lifestyle but it’s ours. We like the rhythm of the day here in Ulsoor. Even when it’s raining outside, people come in to escape the puddles on Elphinstone Road.
