Padmavathi Glass House

We are over at No-21/1 on Bilari Road in Bengaluru. The sign says Padmavathi Glass House, and we’ve been here for quite a while. Bengaluru has changed a lot, but this stretch of road stays pretty much the same. Our shop is filled with glass of all thicknesses. It’s a bit cramped inside because we try to stock as much as possible. You have to watch your step. I usually have a radio playing in the corner to keep things from being too quiet. People come to us for shelf glass or maybe a new tabletop. We do the cutting right here while they wait sometimes, if it’s a small job. The rain can be a problem here; when it pours, we have to move everything away from the front door to keep it dry. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in the city. We just want to do a decent job for the people who live nearby. My neighbor brings me coffee in the afternoon, and we sit on the stools outside for a break. It’s a straightforward way to live. We don't use fancy machines, just the hand cutters we’ve had forever. They work just fine. Sometimes people ask for things we can't do, and we just tell them honestly. No point in making promises we can't keep. It’s just us here, every day, doing the glass work. We try to keep it simple and honest for everyone who stops by.
