Mysore Provincial Silk Handloom

Our shop, Mysore Provincial Silk Handloom, is located at 6784 Avenue Road 1st Main. If you have ever been to Avenue Road, you know how packed and narrow the streets can get. It is a very old part of the city and we have been a part of it for a long time. Inside, the shelves are stacked high with all kinds of silk and handloom fabrics. The colors are bright, but the shop itself is quite simple and traditional. We don’t have fancy lights or air conditioning that makes you freeze. It is just a place where we unroll bundles of cloth for people to see. There is usually a bit of dust in the air from all the fabric, and the floor might be a bit worn out from all the feet walking over it. We spend our days measuring out meters of silk and chatting with customers who have been coming to us for years. The noise from the 1st Main street never really stops, but we don't notice it much anymore. It’s a lot of hard work lifting the heavy rolls of cloth, especially when it’s hot outside. We don’t try to be anything we are not. We just keep our stock ready and wait for folks to come in and find something they like. It’s a piece of old Bangalore right here in our small shop.
