Metro Call Taxi is run out of a small office at 1227 Yeshwantpur. It’s a pretty chaotic place most of the time because the phones are always ringing. We have a few desks with maps and ledgers where we keep track of where the cars are. Yeshwantpur is a major hub. The railway station is nearby. There’s never a quiet moment. We have drivers coming in and out to drop off keys or pick up their logs. There’s usually a pot of tea going in the corner. Night shifts can be long. We don’t have a fancy waiting area for passengers. Most of the bookings happen over the phone anyway. The walls are covered with phone numbers and notes about different routes. Sometimes the traffic in Yeshwantpur is so bad that we have to spend all our time explaining delays to people. It’s a lot of talking and organizing. The office is a bit old. The chairs have definitely seen better days. It serves its purpose. We just try to keep the cars moving and the drivers on schedule. There’s a lot of paperwork involved that people don’t see. We have to keep track of fuel and repairs. It’s a busy, unpolished life here. We’re right in the middle of everything and that’s just where we happen to be set up.
