Siri Silks & Jewels

If you walk down 15th 1st Cross in Malleswaram, you’ll find us easily enough. Siri Silks & Jewels is tucked in among the other shops that make this neighborhood what it is. Malleswaram has that old feel to it, especially in the mornings when the flower sellers are out and the temples are busy nearby. Inside our shop, it’s all about the sarees and the little boxes of jewelry. We don’t have those fancy automatic doors or a bunch of security guards standing around. It’s more like a place where you sit down on the stools and talk while looking at the fabrics. The silk has a certain weight to it that you can feel as soon as you pick it up. We spend a lot of time folding and unfolding things because that’s just how it goes when people are trying to decide on a color. Sometimes the store gets crowded and it feels a bit tight, but nobody seems to mind much. We have these big mirrors on the walls that have been there for years. The light comes in from the front and hits the gold threads in the silk, which is always a nice sight to see. We aren't trying to be the biggest store in Bangalore. We just like being part of this street and seeing the same faces year after year. It’s a lot of dusting and organizing, but someone has to do it to keep the place looking decent.
