Kusuma Sarees

Kusuma Sarees is located on the ground floor of Kaveri Plaza. We are tucked away in Appaji Rao Lane, which is off Bettappa Lane in the Nagarathpet area. If you’ve ever walked through Nagarathpet, you know how narrow those lanes are and how many people are packed into them. It’s a vibrant, noisy place full of the smell of food and the sound of people haggling. Our shop is right there on the ground floor, which makes it easier for loading and unloading the heavy bundles of sarees that come in from the suppliers. It’s not a huge space, so we have to be very clever with how we stack things. Every inch of the walls is covered with shelves. We spend our days unfolding and folding fabric, showing people the different patterns, and making sure the stock stays in good condition despite the heat and the dust from the street. The lighting inside is bright so we can see the threads clearly. It gets quite cramped when we have a few people inside at once, but that’s just the nature of doing business in this part of town. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing team. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait for the day to start. It’s a traditional way of working that hasn’t changed much over the years.
