It’s been quite a few years since we first opened up here at 210, Brigade Road. Most mornings start the same way, unlocking the front door and letting a bit of the street noise in before it gets too crowded outside. The shop is filled with all sorts of things from Kashmir, mostly stuff we’ve gathered over a long time. There isn’t much of a fancy system to how we arrange the shelves, so you might find a heavy rug next to a small wooden box. It gets a bit dusty because of the traffic on the road, but we try to keep up with it every day. People walk in just to look around while they’re out shopping in the area, and we usually just let them be. Sometimes the light inside isn't the best, especially in the corners where the taller stacks of fabric sit. We spend a lot of time just moving things around to make space for whatever arrived recently. My desk is tucked in the back under a small lamp that flickers if you tap it. It’s a quiet enough life most days, just dealing with the stock and talking to the regulars who stop by for a chat. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit, but this corner stays pretty much the same. It’s just us here, keeping the place going and making sure the door stays open for whoever happens to be passing by on their way down Brigade Road.
