Stain Glass Studio

The studio is located at 31 Castle Street in Ashok Nagar. We call it Stain Glass Studio. We spend most of our time hunched over workbenches with glass cutters and grinders. There’s always a fine layer of glass dust on the tables, no matter how much we clean. We work with different types of colored glass, trying to get the pieces to fit just right into the patterns we draw out. It’s slow work and you have to be careful not to cut your fingers, though it happens more often than we’d like. The light in the studio is important, so we have big windows, but the street noise from Ashok Nagar still drifts in all day. We have stacks of glass sheets leaning against the walls in every color you can think of. Sometimes we just sit and look at the sketches for a long time before we even touch a piece of glass. It is not a fancy place, just a workspace filled with tools and scraps. People come in to ask about repairs or new pieces for their homes. We don't have a big showroom; we just show them what we are working on at the moment on the main table. It’s a bit of a messy process, especially when we start soldering the lead lines together. Every day is a bit different depending on what design is on the table, and some days we get more done than others. It’s just how it goes with this kind of craft. We usually have a radio playing in the background.
