Working here at the Mission Road location for Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Ltd is a lot of routine. We are over at Krishna Kunj, on Khareghat Road, number 78. It is a big old place that has seen better days, but it gets the job done. Every morning is about the trucks. You see them lining up outside before the gates even open. There is a lot of shouting and heavy lifting as crates of bottles are moved around. It gets very loud with the glass clinking and the engines idling. I’ve worked here a long time and the smell of the warehouse is something you never forget. It’s a mix of cardboard, damp concrete, and whatever spilled a week ago. We don't have fancy furniture in the office area. The chairs creak and the fans just move the hot air around. We spend most of our time looking at manifests and checking off numbers. It’s not the kind of place where you come to relax. It’s a logistics hub, really. People think it’s exciting because of what we handle, but it’s just boxes and numbers to us. The Khareghat Road traffic is a nightmare in the afternoons, so we try to get the big loads out early. It’s just a government warehouse at the end of the day, keeping things moving through the system without much fuss or any unnecessary polish.
