Karigar India Roots

We’ve been here at 9 Commercial Street on B B Road for a good while now. Most people just walk past us because this area is always so crowded with shoppers and traffic, but if you step inside, you’ll see what we are up to. We deal with stuff that has a lot of history to it, mostly working with our hands and keeping things traditional. It gets pretty dusty in here sometimes, especially when the fans are running fast in the summer heat. We aren't a big fancy showroom with bright lights and air conditioning that makes you shiver. It’s just a workspace where we keep our tools and the items we make. Sometimes the guys stay late to finish a piece because it just takes as long as it takes. You can’t really rush this kind of thing. The street outside is noisy, but in the back, it’s mostly just the sound of someone working or maybe a radio playing softly. We don’t have a big team of sales people in suits. Usually, it’s just one of us sitting near the front, probably drinking a cup of tea from the stall around the corner. We like being in this part of town despite the parking being a total nightmare for everyone. It feels real here. People come in looking for something specific, and we try to find it in the piles we have. It is what it is.
