Kalavathi

Lalbagh West is a busy spot. Kalavathi is right here in the transport area. GD Street has a lot of trucks moving in and out all the time. Being near the Gandhi Bazar bus stop means there are always people walking past the door. It can get quite dusty with all the traffic. We have been in this spot at number 38 for a while now. The shop is small and we have a lot of things squeezed into the corners. Sometimes it feels a bit cramped when more than two people are inside. We don't really do much advertising. People just find us because they are already in the area for the market. I usually get here early to sweep the front before the buses start running frequently. It is a noisy place to work but you get used to the sound of the engines. We have some chairs for people to sit if they are waiting for someone. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint but we haven't gotten around to it yet. Most days are pretty much the same. We handle the daily tasks and talk to the neighbors. It is just a practical way to earn a living in this part of town. You see the same faces every morning heading to the bus stop. We just keep doing what we do every day without making a big deal out of it.
