We've been at this spot in Avalamma Layout off Magadi Road for a good while now. Jute Pragnya is mostly just us working with jute every day. It gets pretty dusty in here with all the fibers flying around, but you get used to it. My hands are usually a bit rough from handling the material. We started in this small space at 39/11 3rd Cross because the rent was okay and it’s close to where most of the workers live. Most mornings start with a cup of tea and then we just get to the stitching. There isn't much space to move around once the big rolls of fabric arrive. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit before the machines can start back up. People find us because they know the neighborhood. It’s not fancy. The walls could use a new coat of paint but we spend most of our time looking at the needles and thread anyway. We make bags and other small things. If the weather is nice, we leave the door open to get some air from the street. It’s a busy corner of the layout. Neighbors stop by to chat sometimes. We just try to finish the orders on time so they don't pile up. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down over Magadi Road.
