Ganesh Coffee Works

Ganesh Coffee Works is tucked away on Magadi Main Road in Borivali, at number 31/81. If you walk by, you can usually smell the coffee beans being roasted. We have these old machines that have been running for a long time. They make a lot of noise, a sort of rhythmic clanking that you get used to after a while. My father used to run this place, and now I’m here most days. We spend a lot of time weighing out bags and sealing them up. It’s dusty work with the coffee chaff flying around. We have a small counter where people can buy what they need. We don't have a lot of space for sitting. It’s more of a workshop than a cafe. The shelves are stacked high with burlap sacks from different places. Sometimes the grinder jams and we have to take it apart to fix it. That usually takes an hour or so. We don’t have a fancy marketing plan. We just sell coffee to the people who live around here and the shops that need it. It’s a basic business. We keep the floor swept, but the coffee dust always finds its way back. The windows get a bit grimy from the street outside. We just keep working. It’s what we do. Magadi Main Road is always loud, but inside it just smells like roasted beans. We've been here for years.
