About Ganadeva Sculptures – Art & Craft in Bengaluru
If you come down to Jayanagar 7th Block 663, you’ll find Ganadeva Sculptures. It’s easy to tell which place is ours because there’s usually some stone dust or bits of material near the front entrance. The workshop is the heart of what we do here. It’s a bit of a messy place, filled with tools, hammers, chisels, and half-finished pieces sitting on blocks. We don't have a polished showroom with bright lights or fancy displays. Instead, you see the work exactly as it is, in various stages of being made by hand. The air often smells like cut stone or wet clay, which we’ve all gotten used to. We’ve been in Jayanagar for a long time, and people around here know us for the sculptures we produce. It’s hard physical work, and our hands and clothes are usually dirty by the end of the day. We don't use a lot of fancy machinery; most of the carving is done by hand with a lot of patience and time. There are pieces standing in the corners that have been there for months while we work on them bit by bit. Sometimes neighbors drop by just to see what we are working on currently. We don't mind the company at all, as long as they don't mind the noise from the tools. It’s a traditional kind of business, and we aren't looking to change much about how we operate. We just want to keep making things that look right and feel solid to the touch.
