This place, Gajendra S, is located at 35 Wilson Garden. We are tucked right under the Fernandez Bridge, which makes it a bit dark even during the day. We are opposite the police station and actually inside the Corporation Market area. It’s a very busy place with people shouting and carts moving around all the time. Being inside the market means there is always a lot of activity and a bit of a mess. We have our stall set up with whatever we are selling that day. The floor is often damp because of the market cleaning or the rain coming in from the sides. It’s not a quiet place to work. You can hear the traffic on the bridge overhead constantly. We’ve been in this market for years. The space is small and we have to stack things high to make everything fit. There’s a lot of dust and the smell of the market is always there. We don't have fancy lights, just a few bulbs hanging from the ceiling. People come here because it’s convenient while they are doing their other shopping. It's a rough and ready kind of spot. We open early when the market starts and close up when the crowds thin out. It’s a hard life working in the market, but we are used to the noise and the constant movement of people. We keep a small radio playing to help pass the time when things are slow.
