Cuppa

Setting up on Mahathma Gandhi Road was a choice we made because of all the walking traffic. This part of town is always moving, so we try to keep up with that pace. We have a lot of people who just pop in for a quick cup and leave before their bus arrives. The counters are a bit worn from all the bags being dragged across them, but it gives the place some character. We usually have the radio playing some local station in the background while we work the machines. It gets quite loud when the main road is backed up with cars honking, but inside we just focus on the steam and the beans. We don't do anything too complicated here. If you want a drink, we make it, and that’s about it. The floor needs a good sweep every hour because people bring in dust from the street. Sometimes we forget to change the date on the little calendar by the till. It’s just how things go when we’re busy. We know the shopkeepers nearby and they often send someone over for a tray of drinks in the afternoon. It’s a small shop, and during the rush hours, there’s barely enough room to stand. We like the energy of MG Road even if it’s exhausting by the time we close the shutters at night.
