We are based out of Kalyan Nagar, specifically in the Veerabhadraswamy Nilaya building on the 9th Main. It’s a residential-feeling area in Maruthi Layout, just off Hennur Cross. Our days are mostly spent on the phone or looking at screens to see where the drivers are at any given moment. It’s not a big fancy dispatch center, just a room with some desks and a lot of charging cables for our phones. We hear the sounds of the neighborhood throughout the day, children playing or the vegetable seller going by. The taxi business is pretty much constant, so there is always someone coming in or out to settle their accounts or take a break. We keep a stash of tea and biscuits in the cupboard because the shifts can get long. Sometimes a driver calls in saying he’s stuck in a jam near the cross, and we have to find someone else to pick up the passenger. It’s a lot of juggling schedules and trying to make things work smoothly. The office itself is simple, nothing too special to look at. We have a couple of chairs for when people come by to ask for a ride or to apply for work. It’s a local operation, and we know most of the shortcuts around this part of Bangalore. We just try to keep the cars moving and make sure the phones are always answered when they ring.
