Cafe Amul

Our little spot is located at number 474 in Jeevan Bhima Nagar. It’s a small shop, mostly filled with refrigerators and crates of milk that arrive early every morning. We are usually the first ones open on the block. You can see the delivery truck pulling up when it’s still dark outside. We spend a lot of time moving boxes around to make space for people to stand. It’s not really a place to sit down for a long time, just a counter where you can get your stuff and go. We have a glass case for the chocolates and ice creams which the kids from the nearby school always crowd around in the afternoon. The floor is tiled and we have to mop it several times a day because people bring in dirt from the street. It gets a bit cramped when more than four people are inside at once. We know most of the families in the neighborhood by name since they come here for their daily groceries. The shelves are packed tight with butter, cheese, and milk packets. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to worry about the freezers, but usually, it's fine. We don't have fancy decorations, just some posters on the wall and the hum of the cooling units in the background. It’s a practical place for the people living in the surrounding apartments to grab what they need quickly.
