Baskin Robbins

Working at the Baskin Robbins on Magrath Road G-8/B is mostly about keeping things cold. We spend a lot of time checking the thermometers on the freezers to make sure the ice cream stays just right. It is a small space, so when more than five or six people come in at once, it feels a bit cramped. We have the usual flavors sitting in the tubs, and we spend the day scooping them out into cones and cups. The floor gets a bit sticky sometimes if someone drops a bit of chocolate syrup, so we are always grabbing the mop. Magrath Road is always busy with traffic, so we see a lot of people just popping in to escape the heat for a few minutes. We don't really do much advertising; the sign outside does most of the work. Sometimes the spoons run out and we have to scramble to find a new box in the back room. It is a straightforward job. You talk to people, ask them what they want, and hand them their scoop. The bright lights inside make everything look very clean, but there is always a bit of ice buildup in the corners of the glass that needs scraping. Most of the regulars come in late in the evening after they have had dinner somewhere else nearby. We just stay open until the last customer leaves and then we start the cleaning all over again. It is a steady rhythm that we have gotten used to over the months.
