You can find Annapurna Silk Kendra at No. 68 and 69 in the Pamadi Mansion on Avenue Road. Avenue Road is always packed with people and traffic, so it can be a bit of a squeeze to get here. We’ve been in this building for many years. We deal mostly in silk, and the shop is full of different rolls and colors. It smells like old fabric and incense most days. We don't have a big staff, just a few people who know how to handle the silk without ruining it. It’s a delicate job. We don’t have air conditioning, just some old ceiling fans that buzz all day. We mostly get regular customers who have been coming to us for a long time. They know where we are in Pamadi Mansion. We aren't trying to be a high-end boutique or anything like that. We just sell silk at a decent price and try to be helpful when someone can’t decide on a color. Sometimes the stock gets tangled or we misplace a receipt, but we sort it out eventually. It's a bit of a mess sometimes with all the fabric everywhere, but it’s our mess. We like the hustle of Avenue Road even if it’s tiring. By the end of the day, our feet are usually sore, but seeing the bright colors of the saris on the shelf makes it feel worth the effort. It’s a lot of work to keep the silk from getting dusty on the shelves, so we spend every morning cleaning.
