Down here in Kingaon, Phulambri, we set up Veer Maroti Farmer Producer Company Limited. Sunil Vitthalrao Chavan is where we keep our records and meet up. This area in Aurangabad has a lot of hardworking farmers, and we are just one group of them. We aren't doing anything flashy. Most of our time is spent worrying about the monsoon and the price of diesel. We thought that by forming this company, we could maybe get a better deal on seeds or share some of the transport costs to the market. It’s not easy to navigate the rules, but we are learning as we go. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who take turns looking after the books while others are in the fields. The sun is hot here, and the work is tiring, but it's what we know. We grow what we can and try to keep the quality decent. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We just grow food. People in Kingaon know who we are. We are your neighbors. We don't have a corporate office with air conditioning. Our office is the open air and the dust of the road. We just want to make sure the work we do pays off enough to keep the lights on and the seeds planted for next year. It’s a simple goal for us.
