Our company, Shrikanade Farmer Producer Company Limited, is based in Neknoor. That’s in the Beed district. It’s a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business, and most of that business involves the fields. We started this company because we saw that we were all facing the same problems alone. Whether it was the cost of diesel for the pumps or the way the prices dropped right when we were ready to sell, it was getting harder to keep going. We are just a group of farmers who live and work right here in Neknoor. The office isn't much to look at; it’s just where we handle the logistics and the government forms that seem to never end. We don't have a professional manager or anything like that. We do everything ourselves. Some days we spend more time arguing about the best way to do things than actually doing them, but that’s just how it is when you have a bunch of independent farmers in one room. We are focused on the day-to-day reality of life in Beed. It’s not an easy life, but we are used to it. The company is our way of trying to get a little bit ahead, or at least not fall behind. We are just trying to keep the traditions of our village alive while finding better ways to make the farming side of it actually work for us and our neighbors.
