Ishwari Krushikanya Farmer Producercompany Limited is based out of Shriram Dhuraji Shembde’s house in Shekta, which is part of the Beed district. The name has Krushikanya in it because the women around here are the backbone of the farms, even if people do not always see it. We are a small group and we do not have a fancy setup. Shriram's place at house number 11/2 is where we meet to discuss the harvest and what we are going to plant next. Beed is a dry place and the water is always a worry for us. We started this company because we were tired of being at the mercy of middle men who take all the profit. It is not easy to organize everyone when everyone is busy with their own cattle and fields, but we are trying. We share what we know about the soil and try to find ways to save a bit of money on inputs. There are no polished presentations or marketing experts here. It is just us sitting around, sometimes late into the evening after the sun goes down, trying to figure out how to keep the farms going. The roads to Shekta are not the best, and things move slowly, but we are okay with that. We are just local farmers trying to look out for each other and make sure the hard work we put into the ground actually counts for something in the end. It takes a lot of patience.
