Applique Handicrafts Producer Company Limited

We started this work here in Barmer, right in Baldev Nagar. It’s a busy spot near the Balika Hostel. Vikram Singh lets us use the space in Gali Number 01. Out here, the sun is always hot, but people have been doing applique work for a long time. It is just what we know how to do. We got a group of people together to make it a real company. It’s mostly just sitting down and doing the handwork. It takes time. Some days are slow. We don’t have a big office or anything, just the room here. People come by and see what we are making. It is mostly fabric and needles. You know how it is in Rajasthan, everything is bright. We try to keep the traditional patterns alive because that is what the elders taught us. The address is easy to find if you are in the neighborhood. We are just trying to keep the work going so everyone has something to do. Some of the sewers have been doing this since they were kids. It’s not fancy. We just pack things up and send them out. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside. That is how it goes. Barmer is a small place in some ways but this Gali stays active. We are glad to be part of the community here near the hostel. Our group works together to make sure the stitches are right, even when it is late and we are tired.
