Shalini Family Hair & Beauty Parlour

Our shop is located on the first floor at 273/5 Sodepur Road in Kolkata. It’s right across the street from the Municipality Office, which is a major landmark in this part of town. You have to walk up a narrow and somewhat steep set of stairs to get to us. Since we are on the first floor, we get a pretty good view of all the traffic and people on Sodepur Road. Shalini Family Hair & Beauty Parlour is a name we chose because we handle everyone who comes through the door, from small children to the elderly. We have a few different sections for hair cutting and other beauty work. The chairs are lined up against the main wall and we have big mirrors that make the small room look a bit larger than it actually is. It gets very busy on the weekends when most people are off from their jobs. We have a small wooden bench for people to wait on, and usually there are some old newspapers or magazines lying around to read. The floor is tiled in white but it is very hard to keep it perfectly clean with so many people coming in and out all day. We use regular shampoos and creams that we buy from the local distributors in the city. It’s a family-run kind of place, so there’s no corporate or polished feel to it. We just talk to the customers and do our daily job.
